Minutes of Feb 14, 2008 Meeting

 

President Bob Dunlap called the meeting to order at Marie Callender’s Restaurant  at 6:50 P.M. There were 25 members present.  Each introduced themselves and commented on their Porsche’s model and color.

 

l.         Treasurer’s Report

A.     Treasurer Pam Dunlap reported

                        1.  The balance amount currently on hand is $2864.48

2.   National Charity Subsidy of $350 was used for the Children’s Carnival in     Dec.  The left over money of $91.10 was donated to Good News Mission.

                        3.  There will be a National Membership Rebate of $120 for Shasta Region

 

II.  Website Manager Report

            A.  Phred Degner reported that he would be posting some new information soon.

                       

III.  Committee Reports

A.     Membership – President Bob reported

1.      4 new members: Steve Fisk, Weaverville, 07 911; William Pangman, Elk Creek, 08 Cayenne; Ronald Stremel, Mt. Shasta, 03 Boxster; and Winton Wolcott, Willows, 03 911 C2.

B.     Tours – Chairman Jerry Nystrom reported

1.      In most cases the tour will continue to be on the Sunday following the monthly meeting which takes place on the 2nd Thursday of the month  at Marie Callender Restaurant. Social gathering at 6:00, eat at 6:30, Meeting at 7:00. (Note: enter at back door where the separate meeting room is located.)

2.      A hand vote was taken to see if anyone wanted to start with a tour this Sunday, Feb 17th.  The vote was No.

3.      The first tour will be in March, Sunday the 16th – the Doug Rich Memorial Tour.

4.      A request was made for tour leaders to put together a tour for a month that they chose  – planning the route and lunch place or picnic and submit to the tour Chairman Jerry Nystrom.  Jerry would work with the Tour leader to put the plans together.  A sign up sheet was passed around for signing up to be a tour leader.  If you have an idea for a tour, please contact Jerry.  Your input as a member is valuable. Contact information for Jerry Nystrom is in the newsletter and on our web site.

5.      A discussion was held on possible Tour Ideas.  Harvey Wiedman commented that he thought ‘Meet and Greets’ at different locations should be considered.  It was also noted that other clubs have commented that they would like to join Shasta Region on “Meet and Greet” events.

 

IV. Old Business

A.     A discussion was held on the overnight tour coordinated by Tour leaders Dale and Gail Gleichweit: The Napa Porsche Race Car and Wine Tour scheduled for Monday Sept. 15 and 16th.  Tour is limited to the first 12 cars to sign up.  Due to reservation requirements, sign up is requested by end of Feb.  So far, the limit has not been met, so contact President Bob Dunlap bunchy617@hughes.net  or Dale & Gail Gleichweit at gleichweit@omniglbal.net  for further information. There will be a viewing of a private Porsche race car museum at Palmaz, private wine tasting at organic Spottswoode Winery, and dinner at the CIA (Culinary Institue of America) restaurant.   Special prices have been arranged at Hawthorne Inn & Suites.  Call the hotel direct at 707-226-1878 for reservations, after you confirm the 12 car limit has not been met and you are on the attending list.

B.     Tim Taylor said the barbeque pit for the Santa Maria Barbecue was in the works.

 

V.  New Business

A.     Application for a new EIN number for Shasta Region was being applied for to fill the requirement from the IRS for Non profit organizations under $25,000

B.     Shasta Region received a congratulations letter from National for our 30 years as a PCA Region.  A new banner and 30-year decals were also sent.  The decals were passed out to the members present at the meeting.

C.    An announcement that information for this years Parade in Charolette, NC was available

D.    Newsletter Editor, Harvey Weidman asked for member input for the newsletter.  This could be as simple as submitting “A Tip for the Month”  - A discussion followed on some of the members experiences.  Harvey commented that these tips or experiences would be valuable submissions for future newsletters and asked members to please submit them.  He was very flexible with ‘lead time’.

E.     Tour Chairman, Jerry Nystrom, asked for a hand count of people who would like to extend the overnight tour to Napa to an extra day leaving on Sunday instead of Monday if the room rate could be worked out to be the same.  Several members were interested so Jerry offered to follow through on gathering the information and contacting tour leaders Gail and Dale about the possibility.

 

V.     FYI Announcements

A.      A Valentine Day Raffle Drawing was won by Ruth Duclos.  A rose plant in a heart decorated planter was presented to our lucky winner, along with presentations to each lady present of a pink carnation.

B.      We have three members with 30 or more years as a member of National PCA: Newsletter Editor: Harvey Weidman 34 years, Vice President Duane Spencer 32 years, and President Bob Dunlap, 30 Years.

C.      Our first meeting of the year was celebrated with a special Valentine Dinner at our meeting place, Marie Callender’s.  Thank you to restaurant owner and Shasta Region Member, Joe Wong, for helping to make this a special event.  And thank you to President Bob and Pam for their added touches of Valentine raffle and flowers for the ladies.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 P.M.  so members could continue to enjoy their special dinner and socializing with fellow members.
