PORSCHE CLUB OF AMERICA, SHASTA REGION

            MINUTES OF MAY 6, 2008 MEETING

 

President Bob Dunlap called the meeting to order at Marie Callender’s Restaurant at 7:07p.m. with 19 members present.  Roundtable introductions were made with each member introducing themselves, and Porsches by model and color.

 

I.  TREASURER’S REPORT

        A.  Pam Dunlap, Treasurer, reported a balance on hand of $3,168.30

 

II. WEBSITE MANAGER’S REPORT

        A.  Phred Degner indicated that he was updating the website and new

                 pictures will be added.

 

III. COMMITTEE REPORTS

         A.  MEMBERSHIP:  President Dunlap reported two new members:  Thomas

                  Venus, Chico, ’82 911 and Cornelis Kees Elmes, Chico, ’00 Boxter.

            B.  OTHER EVENTS:   Flyers were passed out for the Baja Experience.

            C.  TOURS:  Jerry Nystrom reported that because of Mother’s Day, the

                   Next tour will be on Sunday, May 18 to Weaverville and the Lewiston

                   area.   Lunch arrangements are uncertain at this time, but will be 

                   posted on the Website (picnic or restaurant).  The tour will meet at Oasis 

                   on Athens St. at 9 a.m., leave at 9:30 a.m.  WATCH YOUR WEBSITE!

                   Also, mentioned were tours in the Chico area and perhaps an          

                   overnighter to the Coast.

 

OLD BUSINESS

             A.  NAPA/WINERY TOUR:  Gail Gleichweit reported that 12 cars are

                  signed up and one on the waiting list (24 people + 1 on list).  Jerry

                  Nystrom will lead the tour down going into Napa via Lake Berryessa

                   and out via Clearlake.  The Gleichweits will meet everyone at the Hotel

                  as they will be coming from the 60th Anniversary 356 meet in Monterey.

                  Arrangements are still on course for Palmaz Winery and Porsche

                  Museum, Culinary Institute of America and Spottswoode Winery.  More

                  details will be forthcoming as September nears.      

B.      BARBECUE:  Jim Taylor reported that the barbecue has not been 

    constructed as yet and he was waiting for Dave Furtado to finalize the  

     project.

 

NEW BUSINESS

            A.  New members were welcomed and flyers were passed.

 

 

GUEST SPEAKER:  President Dunlap introduced his fellow classmate    

From Anderson High School, Wayne Spinks, of Shasta Batteries, Anderson.  Mr.   Spinks gave a very informative talk on batteries, their companies and some of their myths.    He mentioned that heat was the greatest cause of battery failure; the engine block was the best ground; the number of caps on the battery are a good indication of the voltage;  Optima is owned by Johnson Controls; and the Ion battery is coming out and more  new types will be on the market soon.   There were many questions from the membership which Mr. Spinks answered.

 

RAFFLE:  Jerry and Elly Nystrom won the raffle of, appropriately, a battery

         terminal cleaner brush,  spray and washers.
