Our 2005 tour season may have gotten off to a rainy start in April, but in May, the skies cleared up, the garages opened up and the Porsche enthusiasts showed up! 31 Porsche lovers assembled at Oasis Auto Repair on a beautiful Sunday morning and soon departed on a 2-hour journey that turned heads all over Shasta County. Our capable Tourmeister, Jerry Nystrom and his faithful navigator, Elly led us out of the downtown Redding area, to Highway 44 East. From Shasta View Blvd, we proceeded north and performed a circuitous, counterclockwise "Circle Redding" tour of the wild flowers, lakes, hills, and habitat, forming a chain of Porsches that complemented the natural beauty of the North state. The tour party included Van and Diane Wilkinson, Rod and Sandy Dole, Will and Kathy Thompson, Lon and Marge Schmierer, Ed and Christie Janis, Russ and Ruth Duclos, John and Vivian Rodriguez, Allen Krohn and Robin Pine, Brian Packham, Duane and Beth Spencer, Greg Story, Jim Taylor, Dale and Gail Gliechweit, Matt Chamblin, Joe and Pa Sombath, Harvey Weidman, Ed Barnett, and my lovely wife, Pam and myself. I'm sure I left at least one or two people off this list, but in order to get your name in print, you've got to sign the Release and Waiver of Liability Agreement! Hey, that's a pretty good deal—sign your life away, and get your name in our newsletter! Anyway, back to our tour. We wound around the Redding area for a couple of hours, then converged on the tarmac in front of Joe Wong's hangar/Porsche garage. What a site! 24 visiting Porsches graced the entrance to Joe's own stunning collection of vintage stock and modified Porsches. Joe arranged a delicious complementary lunch, catered by Logan's Road House, and ensured we had a comfortable afternoon taking photos and discussing our favorite cars. Some people found it odd that a Ferrari found it's way into the Porsche gathering, but it probably fit in just as well as the Czechoslovakian fighter plane in the parking lot! Many thanks to all who made the tour and caused bystanders to wave at all the beautiful cars, and many, many thanks to Joe Wong for his hospitality and Porsche spirit! I hope to see you all again for our next tour on June 19th. See you on the road! Bob
