Escape to Escape
Well, as much as everything seemed to go “wrong” with our Trinidad trip in July, everything in our trip to the inaugural Porsche Escape seemed to go right.
Three couples made the flawlessly executed journey to Santa Rosa. Russ and Ruth Duclos, Will and Kathy Thompson and Pam and I represented Shasta Region in the first Escape, and probably had a larger percentage representation of any PCA region at the event. Our check-in was smooth, and registration took only a few minutes. The first evening was capped with a no-host pool-side welcome party and buffet, where we were re-united with old Porsche friends and made new friendships. Friday morning found us ready for our tour through the wine country. We staged directly behind Alois and Estonia Ruf, in their world-famous “Yellow Bird” Ruf 911. I thought we did a pretty good job at keeping up with him, even though he had over 600 horsepower and we had a paltry 317hp, but the 356 in front of him kept the playing field pretty level.
Our evening was “open,” but the entire Shasta Region contingent (plus a couple from Sacramento Region) took advantage of the time to spend an evening at an Italian restaurant. |
