Another Great Year Fellow Porsche Enthusiasts, Our February meeting united the Porsche faithful after being apart for the long winter season (January). A few hard core members even braved the unseasonably mild February night and brought their Porsches! We were able to welcome our newest member in person. Jeff Berry joined us with his 1975 911 Carrera. Welcome aboard Jeff. We look forward to your company for many fun and fulfilling events this year. One of the most heart-warming stories I’ve heard this year was the story of Jerry Nystrom’s new parts. Not for his Boxter or 356, but for HIM! Jerry was the recipient of a new (or nearly new) kidney and pancreas on Christmas day last year. The details are personal and I couldn’t tell the story as well as Jerry did, but suffice it to say, if you haven’t identified yourself as an organ donor, you should. Otto is still at the hospital. The doctor said he needed some new parts too. After a new piston/cylinder set and clutch package, he’s just about ready to go. Maybe he’ll be ready for the April tour? Our March tour was a cozy outing that took full advantage of a pleasant late-winter day. Jerry modified our traditional Doug Rich Memorial Tour which provided a scenic, memorable tour for our 2006 inaugural run. Our participants included Will and Kathy Thompson, Phred Degner, Jerry and Elly Nystrom, Mike and Trevor Garrett, and Pam and me. Mike and Trevor are prospective members (father-son) who toured with us in their beautiful 2001 996. After Jerry detailed the rules for the poker run (follow the queen), we drew our cards and departed. We found Highway 299 West via Buenaventura Boulevard and proceeded to the Whiskeytown Visitor Center. A quick photo op and another draw from the deck, and we were on our way again. We wound around from Old Shasta to Igo, past the new Veteran’s Cemetery and landed at our house for a bladder break, cookie munch, and another card draw. He headed east on Gas Point Road, south on I-5 to Jelly’s Ferry Road, and then north into Cottonwood. Jerry located suitable parking (5 spots next to each other) in front of the Old Town Eatery in lovely downtown Cottonwood. Our table was waiting for us as we walked in, so we got right down to business—the final card draws. Somehow, our Tourmeister managed to find the winning hand and gets a dinner certificate. Just wait till he finds out where he’s going! All-in-all, it was a very nice tour and a great start to our 2006 season. See you on the road! |
