Portland 2006……….

I was asked not too long ago why one our tours is named “The Doug Rich Memorial Tour”.  I talked to a few people and looked through old Northwinds to confirm my memory and add a few tidbits.

While talking with Marge ( Doug’s wife) she filled me in on a few interesting things . She said they started their interest in Porsches when they purchased their first one to replace their Thunderbird. It was because of a  growing family and the need for a back seat.  She also said he was very active with the car.  Participating in club events in the bay area where she still keeps in touch with some old friends.  Marge said he had 3 Porsches when he died and they kept 2 in the family.  She is sure that he would want them on the road more and they may be as her sons get some of the  family enthusiasm back.  While he wasn’t a charter member he was one of the early instigators of events that gave the club a real start.

It only takes a brief look through Northwinds from the early 80’s to see Doug’s involvement .  He was in one issue listed as activities' chair, auto cross event organizer, “famous rally master” , and having a “BEER BUST” featuring a hot dog barbeque and swim party.  In the same issue there was congratulations to Marge and Doug for a  “fun filled afternoon” at a again another event that they had hosted.  Most of the contacts information in the          ” things to do list” had  you getting in touch with Doug.

It seems only fitting that our opening tour of the year is named for him. Thanks, Doug……….  H&S
