Car Cover Etiquette ....... submitted by Bob Dunlap

Car covers provide an extra bit of protection for your garaged Porsche, but can be vital to a non-garaged Porsche.  Be sure to select a cover which is designed for indoor or outdoor or both indoor and outdoor use.  In either case, be sure to get a “fitted” cover and keep it secured with appropriate straps under the floor pan.    Especially out of doors, a fitted cover will keep the wind from rubbing the finish off the paint.  When installing the cover, I always use the same procedure.  I lay out the cover lengthwise over the car and fold the sides down, and “capture” each door mirror with the mirror pockets in the cover.  This keeps the cover from slipping from one side to the other.  Then I complete the layout and adjustment on the front and back.  When removing it, I always start from the sides, folding one side toward the middle of the car and then the other side.  I continue to fold the cover lengthwise until it’s about 12 to 18 inches wide.  Then I fold the cover from front to back.  Rolling the cover is acceptable too, but I find the folded cover fits on a shelf better than a rolled cover.  I always use the same procedure so that when I install the cover the next time, I’ll know to lay the cover at the back of the car and roll it forward.  Nothing is more embarrassing and frustrating than to have your cover completely laid out and “backwards.”
